Welcome to Painted Hills Estates, a rural subdivision approximately one mile east of the historic and picturesque town of Dubois, Wyoming. It is said that Dubois is the most isolated community in the lower 48 states. So, how isolated is Dubois? Located in the scenic Upper Wind River Valley in Fremont County, Dubois is more than an hour’s drive to Lander, Riverton and Jackson, Wyoming. The miles separating Dubois from larger towns may seem daunting to some, but a short visit to the “Valley of the Warm Winds” introduces you to magnificent views and spectacular outdoor adventures.
The platted subdivision is made up of 134 lots. Twenty-four commercial lots border Highway 26/287, and 110 residential lots are located just east of the commercial area. The subdivision is comprised of 2+/- acre residential parcels. Horses/livestock are allowed on most lots in the subdivision with the exception of approximately 20 lots.
Painted Hills Estates is surrounded by state and federal land. As you enter the subdivision from Highway 26/287, your first views are of the Wind River and Badlands or “Painted Hills.” Residents enjoy easy and direct access to the Badlands through the public gate located on Kingfisher Road for hiking, horseback riding, and other recreational adventures. Biking is permitted in other designated areas of the Badlands. In addition, the land bordering the Wind River in the subdivision is commonly owned by all landowners of Painted Hills Estates for their sole recreation and enjoyment.
Human residents are not the only ones inhabiting Painted Hills Estates. We are fortunate to share our neighborhood with wintering Rocky Mountain Bighorn Sheep, Mule Deer, White-Tailed Deer and an occasional wandering moose, mountain lion or bear, not to mention rabbits, eagles, hawks, owls, geese and a variety of native and migratory birds.
So, as Mr. Rogers might have said… WELCOME TO OUR NEIGHBORHOOD!
